Innovative Rail Lifter Attachment Enhances Efficiency and Reduces Operational Hazards
The transportation and manoeuvring of rail are key aspects for all track Renewal tasks. Previously the 25 metre lengths were transported to site, off loaded and stored in a suitable laydown area. A Pettibone or Excavator was then used to transport the rails around site, causing considerable environmental impact and exposure to many risks.
While the transportation of the rails remains the same, PRM has introduced a “Rail Lifter” excavator attachment that can be used to offload short rails off trucks and manoeuvre on-site to the required location.
Before
Truck transporting 25 metre rails and dragging with Pettibone

After
Excavator attachment moving 25m
lengths of rail

The Benefits
- Eliminates dragging of rail and potential damage to environment
- Eliminates the requirement for Dogman or any potential Line of Fire risk
- Eliminates potential stored energy when dragging rail
- Eliminates rail impact person risk and human machine interface
- Ability to manoeuvre 25 lengths as / if required for operational and productivity efficiencies
- Can be utilised for any length rails > 7 meters
- Less stress on the rail and higher quality product install.
