Our Mobile Flashbutt welding solutions are of the absolute highest standard. We have a range of machines suitable for all types of rail welding – including tension welding to specialised narrow head switch welding.
This equipment can deliver transformational improvements on all conventional track maintenance and repair projects. With agility and precision, we can quickly and easily weld rails together in standard or extreme geographic locations (e.g., high embankments, restricted or hard to reach areas).
In addition, the quality of the weld produced means fewer repairs and maintenance work, translating to cost savings in the long term.
We have completed tens of thousands of successful welds without a single defect, thanks to our fully managed and operated flash butt welding team of highly trained operators. Our Flash Butt Welders are maintained locally at our Karratha workshop, with access to one of the largest spare parts inventories in Australia.
Flash Butt Welding Applications
Our narrow head Mobile Flashbutt Welder enables turnouts to be built and installed without aluminothermic welds.
Join rail segments after adjusting them to the correct length, ensuring stability and preventing buckling.
Creates seamless, long rail sections improving track smoothness and reducing maintenance needs.
Repairs damaged sections of rail by welding new rail pieces into the track.
Welds new rails into existing track infrastructure during expansion projects.
Quickly fixes rail breaks, restoring continuity and reducing downtime on the track.
We have expanded our fleet with a second ATMW (All Terrain Mobile Welder) Flash Butt Welder, mounted on a Doosan hi-rail excavator.
Being mobile and all terrain enables our team to perform fully automated welds on or off track. The Doosan is built to deliver precise rail welding, with its high-speed welding functionality and adaptability significantly minimisoing downtime.
Notably, the Doosan offers the advantage of swift relocation from one site to another without the need for on-and-off-track manoeuvres. The system is complete with a diesel engine generator and internal cooling system. An electronic control system provides a stable welding process according to pre-set parameters, providing high quality welding joints.
The welding head is designed to provide highest standard on quality and tolerances of rail welding in-track, stationary and tension conditions. It can achieve 120T pulling force and completes a welding cycle from aligning to flash removing in one automatic sequence.
Narrow Head Flashbutt Welding
At PRM, we’re proud to offer the only Narrow Head Flash Butt Welder in the Southern Hemisphere—one of just four in the world.
Our innovative Narrow Head Flashbutt Welding truck provides the benefits of flashbutt welding in a significantly more versatile configuration, with a specialised narrow weld head capable of accessing all weld locations.
The truck enables us to assemble and install entire railway turnouts without any aluminothermic welds, meaning higher quality and more durable joints for our clients’ railways. The incredible 8-metre reach of the crane enables high-quality welds to be completed in previously inaccessible locations.
