PRM expands nationally with Swietelsky Rail Australia acquisition

  • Acquisition establishes PRM’s east coast presence.
  • Adds specialist rail equipment and an experienced workforce.
  • Strengthens PRM’s capacity to serve clients nationally.

Australian rail infrastructure company PRM has acquired Swietelsky Rail Australia, establishing an immediate east coast presence and strengthening its capacity to service rail clients nationally.

The acquisition brings Swietelsky Rail Australia’s experienced team, specialist mechanised rail fleet and established New South Wales operations into PRM and its parent company, global rail giant Salcef Group.

Swietelsky Rail Australia provides mechanised maintenance and rail project services to major Australian rail networks, including work for the Australian Rail Track Corporation and Sydney Trains.

Its specialist fleet includes ballast cleaning machines, spoil wagons, tampers and regulators, adding complementary capability to PRM’s existing rail construction, renewal and maintenance operations.

PRM Managing Director Chris Prior said the acquisition Is a significant step in the company’s national growth strategy.

“Swietelsky Rail Australia has built a highly respected business around skilled people, specialist equipment and strong customer relationships,” Mr. Prior said.

“Our two businesses share a strong commitment to safety and delivering exceptional outcomes for clients.

“This acquisition allows us to build on those strengths. It gives PRM an established east coast operating platform and broadens the workforce, fleet and technical capability we can make available to clients across Australia.”

“For employees, being part of a larger national business will open up broader career pathways, leadership opportunities and the potential to work across projects on both sides of the country.

“For clients, it means access to a larger pool of experienced rail personnel and specialist machinery, backed by PRM’s Australian delivery experience and Salcef Group’s international rail expertise and technology.”

Swietelsky Rail Australia Managing Director Anne Connors said the acquisition would provide continuity for Swietelsky Rail Australia’s clients and employees while creating new opportunities for the business.

“Our team has built a strong reputation for delivering complex mechanised rail maintenance safely and reliably, and we’re very proud of what we’ve achieved,” Ms. Connors said.

“PRM understands the value of that capability and the importance of retaining the people, knowledge and customer relationships behind it.

“This acquisition brings together two businesses with closely aligned values and a shared focus on delivering the best outcomes for rail clients. It provides a positive platform for the future, with greater opportunities for our people to continue developing their careers and contribute to projects across Australia.”

Mr. Prior added PRM’s expansion would not change its commitment to its established clients and operations in Western Australia.

“Our Pilbara operations remain the backbone of PRM,” he said.

“This acquisition is about adding delivery capacity across the business. PRM will continue investing in the Pilbara while creating a stronger national business that can draw on a wider workforce, a broader specialist fleet and greater technical expertise.”

PRM became part of global rail infrastructure group Salcef Group in 2025. The acquisition of Swietelsky Rail Australia represents a further investment by the Group in PRM and the Australian rail market.

Salcef Group CEO Valeriano Salciccia said “This acquisition reflects Salcef Group’s confidence in PRM and the long-term opportunities within the Australian rail sector.

“Swietelsky Rail Australia brings specialist rail expertise and an experienced local team that will complement PRM’s existing operations and Salcef’s international reach and resources.”

Swietelsky’s existing workforce, customer contracts and operations will continue, with the business to operate as a separate entity during the transition period.
